Do You Know What These Numbers Mean On Train Coaches?

Have you wondered that what that those numbers on the Train compartments actually mean? What is the significance of those?

For the majority of the general population in India, Railways serve as the prime mode of traveling owing to its reliability and low-cost fares. More than 23 million individuals utilize trains to travel from one to another on a regular basis. In any case, not many people know the actual significance of the 5-6 digit number which is written on the outside of the train compartments/coach.

Each train in India has this kind of numbers recorded on its coaches. These are for the most part 4,5 or 6 digit numbers out of which the initial 2 digits means the time of production. For instance, if the number is 8439, it implies the train was made in 1984 also if it’s 04052, then it was produced in 2004. But still, there are few trains which don’t follow this normal practice of classification particularly the Rajdhani express with the number 2951/2.

The rest of the numbers in the digit connote the kind of train whether its AC special or sleeper. Let’s take a close look at how that actually functions :

050-100: AC 2T
